State of West Virginia
Regionalism Project

Beginning in July 2001, Market Street has completed a process to evaluate West Virginia’s areas of primary economic activity, understand the regions already in use, and review how other states have successfully embraced regionalism as a means of delivering economic development programming. This process has included regular interaction with the West Virginia Joint Commission on Economic Development created by the West Virginia Legislature, original economic and demographic research on the State’s current regional organizations and economic hubs, interviews with economic development professionals in West Virginia, and interviews and research on innovative methods other states are using to deliver economic development programming. It is important to note that this project, although sponsored by the Joint Commission on Economic Development, has enjoyed the support and cooperation of the West Virginia Governor’s Office and the West Virginia Development Office. This collaboration demonstrates the importance of this work to the economic future of West Virginia.
